GBG celebrates statehood with a nice cup of tea

Early summer is a fine time to visit the botanical garden

The Georgeson Botanical Garden is the setting for a 50th anniversary celebration of Alaska statehood. A tea party, planned for Sunday, June 28 from 1 to 4 p.m., will feature Alaska teas and desserts, music, artists at work, games, and arts and crafts. The event is hosted by the GBG Society, which was formed in 2007 to support the research facility of SNRAS by uniting volunteers and friends through fun, educational, and fundraising activities.

The tea party brings out the beauty in the garden, in more ways than one.

Period dress from any era of Alaska’s history is encouraged but not required. Tickets are $35 per person, and the fee includes a commemorative teacup. Purchase tickets at the GBG gift shop, New Horizons Gallery, or the Artworks. The tea party is a fund raiser for the botanical garden.

If you are interested in volunteering to help at the tea party, please contact Robyn Russell. People are needed to set up before the event and clean up afterwards, as well as work during the hours of the event, taking tickets, serving tea, or resupplying the food trays. Others are needed to bake cookies or cakes and provide entertainment.
