Comparative farming course offered this fall

These turkeys do not realize they may be a topic of discussion in the comparative farming course, offered at UAF this fall.

Due to the overwhelming response of the spring offering of "Comparative Farming and Sustainable Food Systems," the course is once again available this fall.

The three-credit class is cross listed in natural resources management, geography and cross-cultural studies.

The course, taught by Professor Craig Gerlach, explores the principles of food systems geography and food security, with cross-cultural examinations of dietary traditions, poverty, hunger, equity and food access and distribution.

Agricultural systems are compared in the context of social, ecological and economic sustainability. On the agenda are "country foods," wild game harvest and rural to urban nutrition transition. Contact Gerlach at 474-6752.

The class is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in O'Neill 305.
