Juneau hosts first GeoFest

Juneau had its first GeoFest, a community celebration of Geography Awareness Week, Saturday, Nov. 12. Over 100 people came out in slush and freezing rain to experience the fun activities based on the the theme "Geography: The Adventure in Your Community." Here are a couple of scenes from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center on Saturday:

The event was sponsored by the UA Geography Program, based at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, along with the Geography Department at the University of Alaska Southeast, and is funded in part by the National Geographic Society Education Foundation.

If interested in hosting Geography Awareness Week activities in your community next year, contact Katie Kennedy, UA Geography Program Education and Outreach Coordinator.
