SNRAS student's birch work is in statewide art show

Anyone visiting Homer should plan a visit to the Pratt Museum, where doctoral candidate Kimberley Maher has work in an exhibit titled "Boreal Birch Art and Science in the Northern Forest." The show is on display until Oct. 2.

Maher has been collaborating on the exhibit for the past two and a half years with three distinguished Alaska artists, Margo Klass, the late Barry McWayne and Kes Woodward. The show opened July 1.

It will be on display in Juneau at the Alaska State Museum from Nov. 4 to Jan. 14 and in Fairbanks at the Well Street Art Co. Feb. 3-26.

"I have been very fortunate to work with such a stellar group of artists," Maher said.

Maher's research emphasis is the harvest of non-timber forest products in interior Alaska. Her project looks at the management and valuation (both qualitative and quantitative) of non-timber forest products such as blueberries, birch syrup and firewood.
